Ainsi, la taille minimale requise pour \u00eatre soldat \u00e9tait d\u2019<strong>1,54 m\u00e8tre<\/strong>, tandis que la taille moyenne tournait autour d\u2019<strong>1,65 m\u00e8tre<\/strong>. Notons que ces sources nous renseignent uniquement sur la taille moyenne des hommes en ce temps-l\u00e0, pas celle des femmes. Si nous connaissons la taille moyenne de l\u2019\u00e9poque, les tailles anormales intriguent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En effet, les personnes de <strong>petite taille<\/strong> int\u00e9ressent m\u00e9decins et scientifiques m\u00eame si leur existence est ancienne. Par exemple, des sources mentionnent l\u2019existence de nains gladiateurs dans la Rome antique, et au Moyen \u00c2ge ce genre de personne faisait l\u2019objet de la curiosit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Au <strong>XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle<\/strong>, les petites et grandes tailles attirent les foules. Ces ph\u00e9nom\u00e8nes de<strong> nanisme et de gigantisme <\/strong>font se d\u00e9placer les gens pour voir une repr\u00e9sentation de ces personnes au th\u00e9\u00e2tre ou au cirque. Le cirque Barnum met en avant le personnage de Tom Pouce, de son vrai pr\u00e9nom Charles Stratton ou encore le g\u00e9ant \u00c9douard Beaupr\u00e9. <strong>Victimes de leur taille<\/strong>, ces personnes pouvaient faire l\u2019objet de chasse pour figurer dans des repr\u00e9sentations commerciales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">De nos jours, la taille a toujours un impact dans notre soci\u00e9t\u00e9, bien que moindre compar\u00e9 au XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle. S\u2019il peut s\u2019exprimer avec les l\u00e8vres, l\u2019imaginaire collectif le con\u00e7oit davantage avec une pr\u00e9sentation des <strong>dents<\/strong>. Li\u00e9 \u00e0 la dentition, le sourire est le moteur de nombreux \u00ab changements sociaux, culturels, scientifiques et techniques \u00bb (I. Moucharik) d\u00e8s le XVIII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le sourire est d\u2019abord un marqueur de <strong>distinction sociale<\/strong>. Les progr\u00e8s scientifiques et techniques vis-\u00e0-vis de la dentition servent la sant\u00e9, mais \u00e9galement un <strong>esth\u00e9tisme<\/strong> qui n \u2019 est pas \u00e0 la port\u00e9e de tous. Si l\u2019hygi\u00e8ne dentaire et les m\u0153urs freinent la pr\u00e9sence du sourire dans la sph\u00e8re publique jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la fin du XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, il devient ensuite un moyen de s \u2019 affirmer socialement dans la <strong>culture occidentale<\/strong>. L\u2019art, \u00e0 commencer par l\u2019impressionnisme, d\u00e9peint le sourire avec plus de libert\u00e9. Le <strong>XX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle<\/strong> est marqu\u00e9 par le sourire de Marylin Monroe r\u00e9alis\u00e9 par Andy Warhol, critique d\u2019une soci\u00e9t\u00e9 o\u00f9 sourire signifie cacher ses intentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aujourd\u2019hui, le sourire est un <strong>outil de communication<\/strong> omnipr\u00e9sent. Les sciences psychologiques le reconnaissent comme un langage, dont la signification diff\u00e8re \u00e0 chaque interaction humaine. Une omnipr\u00e9sence marqu\u00e9e \u00e9galement par son utilisation comme strat\u00e9gie marketing : le sourire, per\u00e7u comme un gage de confiance, valorise le produit. \u00c0 titre d\u2019exemple, plusieurs publicit\u00e9s pour des <strong>produits dentaires<\/strong> mettent en avant une femme qui, gr\u00e2ce au produit, arbore un sourire aux dents parfaitement <strong>align\u00e9es et blanches<\/strong>. Chacune d\u2019entre elles a vu sa beaut\u00e9 sublim\u00e9e par le <strong>maquillage<\/strong>, outil \u00ab indispensable \u00bb pour id\u00e9aliser le corps. D\u00e8s l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9, l\u2019usage du kh\u00f4l noir et des fards couleur ocre pour d\u00e9finir l\u2019\u0153il \u00e9taient r\u00e9pandus autant chez les femmes que chez les hommes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Les temps modernes ne d\u00e9rogent pas \u00e0 la r\u00e8gle, les deux sexes aiment se toiletter. La d\u00e9finition du <strong>maquillage parfait<\/strong> : un visage blanc poudr\u00e9 o\u00f9 l\u2019on d\u00e9pose une mouche r\u00e9v\u00e9lant la nature des intentions de son porteur en fonction de sa position, le safran soupoudr\u00e9 sur les pommettes et les l\u00e8vres ros\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Le <strong>XX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle<\/strong> va permettre la d\u00e9mocratisation du maquillage qui r\u00e9v\u00e8le une exaltation du visage et de la bouche, mais aussi une attention nouvelle port\u00e9e au corps entier. L\u2019impact du <strong>cin\u00e9ma<\/strong>, popularis\u00e9 d\u00e8s les ann\u00e9es 1920, dicte de nouveaux canons de beaut\u00e9 par des idoles myst\u00e9rieuses aux yeux charbonneux et \u00e0 la bouche raisin, la blonde platine hollywoodienne ou encore la brunette petit renard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aujourd\u2019hui, le maquillage ne sert plus \u00e0 transformer le visage, mais \u00e0 <strong>l\u2019embellir<\/strong> de fa\u00e7on plus naturelle avec des produits, les imperfections ne sont plus des d\u00e9fauts. Une belle peau \u00e9tait une <strong>peau blanche<\/strong>, synonyme de puret\u00e9 et de bonne sant\u00e9. Les \u00e9lites qui refusaient le h\u00e2le prenaient toutes sortes de pr\u00e9cautions contre le soleil. La cr\u00e9ation de cette norme \u00e9tait un moyen pour elles de se distinguer des esclaves e t de la paysannerie, dont le teint bruni par le travail signifiait l\u2019appartenance au Tiers-\u00c9tat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette obsession pour la peau blanche a encore des r\u00e9percussions aujourd\u2019hui, comme en t\u00e9moigne le ph\u00e9nom\u00e8ne de <strong>d\u00e9pigmentation volontaire<\/strong> n\u00e9 en Occident au d\u00e9but des ann\u00e9es 1960.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette pratique, qui consiste \u00e0 obtenir l\u2019\u00e9claircissement d\u2019une peau naturellement pigment\u00e9e, pr\u00e9sente de nombreux <strong>risques<\/strong>, allant de la destruction de l\u2019\u00e9piderme \u00e0 l\u2019apparition de troubles neurologiques. Cette id\u00e9e selon laquelle il faudrait \u00ab <strong>blanchir des noirs<\/strong> \u00bb remonte \u00e0 la fin du XVIII<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, \u00e0 une \u00e9poque o\u00f9 leur couleur de peau \u00e9tait per\u00e7ue comme un d\u00e9faut qu\u2019il fallait gommer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Pourtant, d\u00e8s les ann\u00e9es <strong>1920<\/strong> et surtout au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, les crit\u00e8res esth\u00e9tiques li\u00e9s \u00e0 la couleur de la peau s&rsquo;inversent. On \u00e9change la p\u00e2leur contre un teint h\u00e2l\u00e9 qui rappelle les vacances, la mer et le soleil.
