C\u2019est au <strong>XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle<\/strong> qu\u2019il se d\u00e9mocratise dans toutes les classes sociales, y compris chez certains dirigeants, avec une tendance plus forte chez les marins, o\u00f9 il avait une utilit\u00e9 d\u2019identification du corps en cas de naufrage, les soldats ou les prisonniers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Au XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle, des m\u00e9decins et anthropologues ont per\u00e7u les tatouages comme des indices du <strong>caract\u00e8re<\/strong> d\u2019une personne et de sa dangerosit\u00e9 sociale, notamment suite aux travaux du m\u00e9decin italien Cesare Lombroso. Cette interpr\u00e9tation s \u2019inscrit dans une tendance plus large associant <strong>l\u2019apparence physique \u00e0 la nature morale<\/strong>. En ce sens, le tatouage est interpr\u00e9t\u00e9 comme l\u2019un des signes caract\u00e9risant le \u00ab type <strong>criminel<\/strong> \u00bb. Le tatouage \u00e9tait \u00e9galement per\u00e7u comme une affirmation de la libert\u00e9 individuelle dans les institutions disciplinaires, o\u00f9 il \u00e9tait interdit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Aujourd\u2019hui, le tatouage conserve des connotations <strong>n\u00e9gatives<\/strong>, notamment comme signe d\u2019appartenance \u00e0 des organisations criminelles ou marginales, pouvant entra\u00eener des exclusions sociales. Ainsi, le marin, le pirate, le gitan arborent un anneau d\u2019oreille, signe de leur marginalit\u00e9 et de leur proximit\u00e9 avec l&rsquo;Orient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Cette marque identitaire et sociale prend une dimension exotique et pittoresque dans le th\u00e9\u00e2tre des <strong>XVIII<sup>e<\/sup><\/strong> et <strong>XIX<sup>e<\/sup><\/strong> <strong>si\u00e8cles<\/strong>, mais demeure une marque discriminatoire. L\u2019anneau est aussi au XIX<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle un bijou <strong>intime et \u00e9rotique<\/strong> (anneau de sein port\u00e9 par les bourgeoises am\u00e9ricaines) mais \u00e9galement un marqueur de <strong>richesse<\/strong> comme les bourgeoises qui portent des dormeuses, des pendants d\u2019or et de pierres pr\u00e9cieuses. Il devient n\u00e9cessaire de faire \u00e9voluer les techniques de chirurgie afin de rendre un visage plus <strong>naturel<\/strong> aux hommes qui ont combattu pendant la guerre ainsi qu\u2019une dignit\u00e9 humaine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">La chirurgie r\u00e9paratrice de l\u2019\u00e9poque se met au service de <strong>l\u2019esth\u00e9tisme<\/strong>, afin de permettre \u00e0 tout un chacun de faire entrer son corps dans ces standards. Du travail des \u00ab sculpteurs de visages \u00bb \u00e0 la recherche de perfection esth\u00e9tique, l\u2019\u00e9volution des techniques chirurgicales commence par la volont\u00e9 des soldats de retrouver une apparence la plus <strong>naturelle<\/strong> possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00c0 partir des ann\u00e9es <strong>1960<\/strong>, les premi\u00e8res pratiques m\u00e9dicales \u00e0 vocation esth\u00e9tique voient le jour avec les proth\u00e8ses mammaires. De mani\u00e8re parall\u00e8le, la chirurgie se d\u00e9veloppe avec des techniques similaires mais aux vocations diff\u00e9rentes.
